The Monster Group’s Net-Zero Carbon Plan:
The Monster Group is dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint by the year 2055. This is a brand-new initiative that we launched in Q1 of 2023 and will be updated as progress continues.
1. Baseline Emissions Inventory:
- Energy use in buildings (heating, cooling, electricity use): To be determined after a full energy audit of all properties (currently ongoing).
- Transportation (company vehicles, commuting, business travel): To be calculated using mileage logs, fuel receipts, and employee commuting surveys (currently ongoing).
- Purchased goods and services: To be estimated based on annual purchasing data and product life-cycle assessments (currently ongoing).
- Waste generated in operations: To be determined by conducting a comprehensive waste audit (currently ongoing).
2. Emissions Reduction Target:
We aim to reduce our emissions by 50% by 2033 and reach net-zero by 2055.
3. Emissions Reduction Strategies:
Energy Efficiency Enhancements:
- Upgrade to energy-efficient appliances/systems: Replace all office appliances with ENERGY STAR-rated models by 2026.
- Improve insulation and energy-saving practices: Install better insulation in office buildings by 2024 and implement a policy to turn off lights and electronic devices when not in use by the end of 2023.
Transition to Renewable Energy:
- Install renewable energy systems: Install solar panels on all suitable properties by 2027.
- Purchase renewable energy credits or switch to a green energy supplier: Switch to a green energy supplier by 2025.
Transportation Emissions Reduction:
- Encourage carpooling/public transit use: Implement a company carpool program and provide public transit subsidies to employees by 2024.
- Switch to electric/hybrid vehicles: Transition company fleet to electric vehicles by 2030.
- Reduce need for business travel: Implement a robust teleconferencing system and encourage its use for meetings where physical presence is not essential by 2023.
Carbon Sequestration Enhancement:
- Implement reforestation or afforestation projects: Partner with a local reforestation initiative by 2023.
- Invest in carbon offset projects: Begin purchasing carbon offsets equivalent to 10% of our emissions by 2024, increasing by 10% each year.
Waste Minimization:
- Implement waste reduction and recycling programs: Introduce comprehensive recycling programs in all facilities and reduce single-use items in our operations by 2023.
- Compost organic waste: Set up composting facilities at all sites where feasible and educate employees about composting by 2024.
4. Monitoring and Reporting:
- Update emissions inventory annually, with a comprehensive review every five years.
- Monitor the effectiveness of reduction strategies through a monthly review of energy bills and an annual survey of employee transportation habits.
- Report on progress through an annual sustainability report published on our website and quarterly updates in our internal newsletter.
5. Continual Improvement:
The Monster Group commits to regularly reviewing and updating our plan as new technologies and strategies become available. We will also be open to feedback and new opportunities to reduce our carbon footprint.
